A groovy weekend
a short time in Byron Bay

Hello all!
Last weekend we skipped Coffs Harbour and made our way further up the East Coast of Oz to the little town of Byron Bay. A lovely place with beautiful sandy beaches, Byron Bay used to be (and still is to a certain extent) Hippy central. There are crystal and aura reading shops galore! Not to mention the one place you could actually have your aura photographed... we think that may be something to do with the mysterious, age-old art of photoshop.
We also found some amazing clothes shops. One had some awesome steam-punk-esque clothes that I wanted soooo much... but not enough to hand over $130 for a jacket (that's about £95!).
There was always someone busking in the streets, or by the beach; and we saw some rather brilliant sand-art e.g. a huge yinyang sign by the rocks. We sat by that particular patch of sand to watch the sun set over the mountains to the west of the sea. It was beautiful; the clouds looked like stalactites, dipped in amber, protruding from the sky above the mountains, while the sheet of whispy cloud over the sea turned the palest pink.
The whole place was groovy, but sadly it only seemed to run skin deep now. It may in the past have been Hippy paradise, but now it seems more like a fascade they have to keep going to maintain the steady flow of tourists.
Either way, we had a great couple of days there, relaxing on the beach, walking up to the lighthouse & the most Easterly point in Oz - where we saw dolphins surfing the waves (very cool).
We're now in Brisbane, and I'll catch you up on that once we move on!
Adiós for now!
xx
